I wish some would like CA and MA to start with
but they can't
Have to succeed from union and the worked well for the south in the 1860's

There is no Yugoslavia now, as one of the more recent examples. Or do you mean statehood as in one of the states in the US? It seems the question was settled by the Civil War. Not even if they want to.
