Advantage over what? I believe that it will slowly die out since it is much easier to just send documents by email.

Here's why you would want a FAX machine.
You have a physical document that you want someone else to have a copy immediately.
1. You could scan it, and then
2. forward it in an email;
3. The other person could wait for the email
4. open the attachment, which in corporate situations could take some time, if the document package is 20 pages long,
5. And then they have to print it out
OR... maybe
your scanner is cr@ppy
or the other person's printer gives lousy copies.
If you FAX it,
you put the package in the FAX machine, dial the number and hit send
....that is 10 times quicker,
and should give a much better faxsimile of the original.

Great for submitting resumes, providing signatures on important paperwork that you don't want to wait for, making in-home copies of items you need to mail and don't want to go to a copy center, conveniece, and many other things you can also do via computer scan and email.
