I have found that it doesn't matter if they are left on, or shut down. In industry applications, they are usually left on, but they also are protected by uninterruptable power. If power is interupted while it is on, that is definately not good for it.

Leave it on for a week? lol! Try using a standby or hibernate but don't leave it on for a week. Shutting it down give it a rest if you're not using it every minute of the day, but if you're on there back and forth then try a standby so you can resume windows so you don't have to shutdown everytime after each use.

That truly depends on how much you use the computer. If you are rarely on it, it is best to shut it down. But, turning it off and on constantly and frequently can stress your power supply and decrease the longevity of your components. I am on my computer a lot, therefore I leave it on and only restart frequently when I'm installing drivers or software that requires it.

Constantly on and off does stress the parts slightly as they heat up and cool off, BUT windows confuses itself if left on for too long I always turn mine of every day, sometimes I even reboot during the day to clear out the memory.

If you use it once every few days i would leave it off while not using it. Do not leave it on though, it could cause dust, dust would cause over heating. I would use hibernate that is what i use.

I shut mine off when it's not in use and I make sure I shut it down at night
leaving it on leaves it wide open for hackers to get in to

Computer components are at an optimal temp. - Good thing
If your enviromnent is dusty you clog up the fans - Bad thing
Dependent on prog config hard disk is always searching - Bad thing
Standby is usually best of both worlds.

It causes the solder joints to weaken every time they are heated up and cooled off. which leads to componet failure.
