Southerner's had everything to fight for. Remember what happened to them when during the war and reconstruction, robbed and taken advantage of by Scalawags and Carpetbaggers. A good indication of the destruction of the South can be seen in Gone With the Wind. The North violated the Constitution and should have peacefully allowed the South to Succeed. I am not promoting Slavery, that was a dying system in which the Southern States good friends at the British who had abolished slavery sometime before had been pressuring them to put in a plan to end. Contrary to popular belief, the Civil War was fought over power and whether States or the Federal Government had the higher authority.

Actually at one point, any male between 15 and 70 joined the Confederate army. No one discouraged young males from joining. It was considered their honorable duty. I don't know about the Union army.

They'll get them selves killed and they would get in trouble if it was found out they were under-age.
