The best way to change your mood is to change the way you think consciously and subconsciously.
Begin by monitoring your thoughts. If your thoughts are going in directions you do not like; stop giving the negative thoughts time and attention.
Think of your mind as a garden, and each person has to make a decisions are they going to grow flowers and vegetables in their garden; or are they going to allow the weeds (negative thoughts to take over. Think of it like this, every negative thought; you plant another weed, and every positive thought you are planting a flower or vegetable.
When you realize you are thinking negative thoughts; rip them out of the ground, and plant five good flowers or vegetables. Try to find five things you are grateful for.
If you work at ripping up the weeds and planting good thoughts; within a few months; there will be no room for bad thoughts because you will have trained the subconscious mind out of it's animalistic tendencies.
This is a technology from old Hawai'i called the "five mahalos" and was later incorporated into the Ka hana pono course.

What she said.
Exercise more, see a counselor if you need to talk to someone, and stay away from people who call you names. There's a name for people who call others names and that name is ABUSER. Do not subject yourself to abusive relationships.
If you are depressed, see a professional and stay away from abusive people. Drink more water and try to eat more healthfully too, that will help you more than any herbs. Drinking water helps reduce cravings for foods/sugars/carbs that are bad for you.
If you have do an imbalance you may need something(prescription pill or herb) to help you get your balance back but you need a professional to go over your life and lifestyle to help you make positive changes for long-term results. There is no magic happy pill. Except maybe vitamin B6 :) But again if you don't make other improvements no pill will solve your problems.
It is also said that if you pretend you are happier you gradually start to get happier -- same thing with self confidence and positive attitudes. Something as simple as making yourself smile releases some of those good chemicals and helps get things moving. It is no joke that laughter is the best medicine, too, that is another thing that releases the feel-good chemicals in your brain.

First of all, whoever these people are who are calling you that aren't very nice. Cruel in fact. As far as happy pills - try exercising more - it releases endorphines (the happy chemical in the body). Try that, and maybe try talking with someone before you go and pop pills. The pill is the easy, only temporary way out. Good Luck. :)

Try all of the above (except marijuana), naturally. However, if you can't get out of the blues you could have a biochemical imbalance and you should speak with your doctor about it because no matter how hard you try with exercise, thinking "happy", etc., you may just be unable to feel better.
