We had this exact problem a year ago, they do eat through your roof, if let go. We went to the animal, or called dog pound too, we were loaned a caged trap, they show you how to set it up, where ever the raccoons are, you place the set up trap there, with a little bowl of water, they raccoons will venture into it after awhile, you can call dog pound, they will send a person from there to collect the filled cage. We caught 5 altogether. No more problems since. Good Luck. ( Be carefull not to get near the raccoons, as they are very mean & dangerous, Do let the pound, handle this matter).

I had a problem with skunks. A hunter friend of mine suggested going to a outdoorsmans shop or hunting shop and ask for "Red Fox Urine". Aparrently the red fox is a natural predator of skunks, racoons, and such. Just follow the directions on the bottle. It worked for the skunks under my shed.

Had the same problem...
Motion censors that turn
on the lights and sprinklers.
They are running around
in the dark for a reason.
I didn't want to trap or try
to poison them, as they
may have young out there
somewhere.

The best option is to trap them and relocate them. Contact your local Animal Control office and see what they recommend. Here in Plano, Texas, they will come out and do that for you. I don't know where you are, but they may do that there, too. If not, you may have to hire somebody. I wouldn't recommend trying it yourself....those little critters carry diseases and are dangerous.

We use cayene pepper sprinkled around the outside perimeter of the house, its non toxic and they really dont like it. The only drawback is that you have to re-apply after it rains.

Hav-a-hart traps. Put peanut butter inside. But you have to drive them a good 10 miles away and release them.

I no that moth balls work very well for skunks, so maybe that might work for racoons. Use lots of them where they hang out

Why don't you trap them? Then take them to another location and set them free. We had one that wanted to live in our fireplace chimney. We caught him in a trap and took him to a wooded area and set him free.
