traditionally the society has been dominated by males. And therefore the name "Grandfather Clock". However, a Grandmother clock sounds good to me. And thank God, it will do away with the gender biasedness.

People started calling their "longcase" clocks "grandfather" clocks after a popular song in the late 1800s:

"Work decided to write a song about the story of this clock, which he called My Grandfather's Clock. The song became popular, and it is from this song that the current usage derives."

Females have a more powerful "biological clock" than males. So males need the help of an external physical clock to keep them "time-sensitive".

bcoz in general men r more punctual to time therefore they needed a watch/clock to see the time on the other hand women r always least affected by time.in their list time comes at the bottom(some times i wonder ,whether time is even listed on the list or not).
take the case of ur own family(if it's an ordinary n general one) & calculate that how many times male member of family r more worrry for punctuality in comparison to female members & vice versa.when u will figure out it u will get ur answer.
