I've filtered out any subject with the word "offer" in it, as spammers love to "offer" you crap you don't want. You can do this under the "Options" feature of most web-based mail systems. Filtering out all dirty words is helpful too... unless you're getting dirty e-mails from someone you know.

Otherwise, it doesn't do much good, because spammers increasingly randomize subject headings into meaningless gobbeldygook.

How would you know what subject to put into the spam filter? There are as many subjects as there are names. If you use Yahoo mail, they have the best spam filter around. The rule of spam is, if you don't know who it's from, and you didn't ask for it to be sent to you, it's spam.
