My brother, Brian, who attended Brown University, the school I hope to attend next year says that many Universities will reject you if they don't like your name or have too many people by that name. Do you think they won't like and/or have too many people by my name of Emma?

Your brother's being an idiot. He probably doesn't want you to attend the same university as him. Apply anyway! No college would turn you down because of your name.

That would be called discrimination. If the person had the grades and test scores but a name that was common and another person had the same grades and test scores but an unusual name and one didn't get in....you do the math.

Your brother is lying to you. However, some schools will reject you based on ethnicity because they are trying to have an equal mix of all races.
Yeah, its retarded and you can sue if you can prove it.
Don't worry about your name and worry about your grades instead!

That is ridiculous. Often times, they leave names off your application. Your grades, extracurriculurs, and essay are the determining factors. Good luck!
