my daughter is potty training and i have been putting plastic panties on her. i wash them in bleach in cold water and hang dry them. a few of them have little tears in them and i want to sew them instead of throwing them out and getting new ones. it could get expensive this way! anyway, is it okay to sew them or would they tear even more in the washer?

It would be so much easier to just buy new ones. Believe it or not, you will be beating your head against a wall trying to sew something that, after a few washes, begins to fall apart even more. I know the expense may seem costly, but add it up...your daughter won't be training for so long that it puts you in a poor house.

They will continue to tear due to becoming brittle. Start with fresh materials and use cool water in future and no bleach! Bleach breaks down materials and hydrogen peroxide will work just as well and cheaper than bleach!

I would go ahead and sew a pair or 2 and then wash them in the machine..
It might work, and if it does not your not out much for trying to see if you could salvage them..

I'm a seamstress. Please buy new ones. It can get expensive but, you can't sew them, they are plastic and it would be hard and defeat the purpose of leakage. Heard of Pull Ups? You can throw those away!

I have done this years ago, but they were the rubberized plastic, which held up to sewing for awhile, but the reg. plastic, would not hold up to sweing.
