Ok, this sounds weird but, it is the only solution I have found. You walk on you toes, yes in your heels. It takes a little practice just don't let your heel hit the ground like you would if you didn't want anyone to hear you clackin' around in your heels. No one will notice that you are doing it either and will be amazed that you can walk over the grate, or pavement in your case, without getting stuck. Gives you great calf muscles too.

there's some stupid answers 'don't walk on the cracks' yes well done...but i don't tend to stare at the floor when i walk!!!
i live in a town that has like a pebbled/cobbled floor so I have no choice but to walk over cracks/dips...and the amount of times I've been tootling along, attempt to put my foot on the floor and for some reason one leg is shorter than the other....look round and my shoe is wedged in between some pebbles, my heels even get stuck in things like the gap between one paving slab and another
unfortunately theres not a lot you can do other than wear flats as there's no way the council are going to pay to fill the cracks in for the sake of women wearing pretty shoes...the men in suits and flash cars don't really appreciate the fabulousness of our shoes!! (i think if they are deep cracks then you can get them to be filled in, but expect to wait a while)
The only thing i can suggest is to maybe invest in lots of wedges....now you can get boots/work shoes etc all with wedges....other than that I'm afraid your going to have to do what i do and put up with it!

You don't avoid the cracks. You write to the council about them - it is their job to fix them. If you get injured because of the state of the pavement then you claim off the council. Otherwise wear something more sensible for the conditions.

There is only one way, and that is to watch where you are going very carefully. Otherwise, you are going to have a big shoe repair bill ... How do you avoid it? By looking down constantly at the pavement, just the way you would if you are avoiding a rain puddle.

just be aware of the cobbles that some councils are laying now...they're much worse, lots of cracks and very uneven if you wear heels. You just have to practice the art of scanning ahead!

either stare at the ground, or wear shoes with a thicker heel, the city is not always for the ultimate fashionista

Don't walk on the cracks, and watch you don't bump into a lampost while you are looking down. Cos that's quite funny to see.........
