Not sure about the saying. But empirically, it has been shown that happiness correlates very well (linearly) with income up to an income of about 100,000$ per year. Above that, there is no correlation between more income and more happiness.

Because happiness does not have a means of measurement. Therefore money can not buy it. If it did that happiness would last as long as the money which bought it(not long). Also if anyone says they will be happier with money because they can buy happiness, They need more training in the school of life. Money makes things easier, If you havn't noticed easy ways are not very rewarding or lasting.
Always say how much more can I do if it were ME minus the money. Also are you really fulfilled in many other ways. think twice. True fulfillment would not even require asking the question you asked.
But thanks for asking it anyways.
All the best of the rest,
Cy

This is an old proverb, which is getting little outdated in our commercial driven societies.
Money buys objects and services, and today there are very little wishes left in the world, which cannot be categorized as either objects or services.
The traditional view is that love and health cannot be bouth with money... but wait, health today can be definetly bought with money - people are easily cured from diseases that were certain death 100 years ago.
How about love?
Well ... let's just say that the circumstances and preconditions that enhance the chances of love can be definately improved by some hard cash... so ..
I guess I sound cynicall, but here's the savior:
"You cannot buy principles with money!"

Speaking from personal experience . . . money CAN NOT buy a person's happiness.
I was married 23 years, now peacefully divorced over 4 years.
My (fomer) husband was, and still is, wealthy. Yet, he neglected our personal relationship. It was during that time that the phrase came to me . . . "When all the cars, toys, bank accounts, pics of trips, fine home, jewerly, clothes etc. are put away at the end of the day and you are laying in bed with your ' sweetie ' . . . it is that person next to you who hugs your heart and looks tenderly into your eyes . . . not all that ' stuff ' that the money bought . . . that ' stuff ' in not in bed with you. . . you're ' sweetie ' and their heart is. I did'nt have to work and had all the 'stuff ' the money bought, but not his heart or personal self (no need to elaborate). I eventually ended the marriage...now peacefully divorced...I have much less money then I did back then, I live in smaller home, returned to work . . . Yet...I've never been happier and more peaceful.
At time of divorce he asked me..." why am I not happy...look at all I have...that anyone else would be thrilled to be in my shoes ". My reply was, " that is stuff . . . what I don't have is a loving relationship with you ".
This same thought can be carried over to work associates, family, friends etc.
Speaking from personal experience . . . money can not buy happiness.
Peace to you.

I'm confused. You're already happy yet you need money to buy you more happiness?
As to your question, I think the novelty of the Stuff you buy wears off eventually and then you end up where you began and need to buy more Stuff to keep up the happy vibes. Kind of like how people get addicted to plastic surgery.
Anyway, rich people commit suicide too so it can't be money that provides happiness.

Usually it's meant to attempt to degrade the value of money in the eyes of those who (1) Don't have it (2) Aren't thought capable of getting it (3) Value something they perceive as greater in fulfillment (4) those who like to be politically correct or (5) an actual rich person who has had their life fall apart due to finances. There may be more, this is the list I have off hand. I'm sure you get the idea. Good day.

Because money only can buy you things that will eventually break and become useless. Money can't buy you happiness because, to most people, there needs to be more than just tangible things you can buy. There needs to be other people and relationships and love between them. Happiness is a feeling, and while you may be able to buy something to make yourself happy for now, eventually that object won't make you very happy.

Money can not buy good health, soundness of mind or peace of heart. Money can buy provide me with monetary gain which offers brief excitement which could be mistaken for happiness but eventually the novelty is lost and then what? What a vicious cycle.

For sure, the absence of money would bring misery. Since in these times we cannot live without financial support.
But it doesn't mean that having money will bring happiness. Having money brings its own problems and issues:
fearing your children will be kidnapped for money;
fearing your home will be broken into & robbed;
fearing people will be jealous of your money & not be your friend;
fearing your friends are not true friends, but just want you to buy things for them;
being constantly pestered to make donations;
plus many other issues.

Hi,
Happiness comes from : "learning to be content with what ever you have" ... If you cannot learn to do this, then no amount of money will ever be enough for you... You will just keep wanting more and more... In writing this, don't think that I am saying that you don't desire more, but when you are content, you can accept that you don't have it... When you are content, you understand that there are things that are "more important than money"....
>>>>>
Money does not buy happiness... It can make life more comfortable, but if you can't be happy with what you have, then no amount of additional comfort is going to make you happy.... ;)
>>>>>>>>
Thanks, for the question!;D
My regards!

Maybe it would work for you but it does not work for everyone. If money bought happiness why are all those rich women always suffering from anorexia or depression or whatever other mental issue. How about rich guys who are always alcoholics or drug addicts? Plus you ever wonder why so many rich people off themselves? So obviously, money does not buy everyone happiness.
