Stay away from Florida and California--High cost of living, high taxes, high crime, high illegal immigration (specially Cal.) high everything, except comparable wages... I would try Texas and the Carolinas....

San Diego or Miami. As for cost of living, its about the same. Except for the cost of housing, that’s a heck of allot more. Try Corpus Christi, or Myrtle beach for a combo. However, you will have to deal with the southern people. It's a different culture that takes getting used to.

it's NOT California. It's way overurbanized, too much crime in certain areas, totally overreliant on the automobile, and the modern pace has become too fast in SF and LA, almost like the East Coast. Plus, the SF Bay Area is way expensive.

I love Florida. Good schools and universities, lower cost of living, new construction, lots of places to shop and explore. Exotic things like the plants, the rivers have dolphins, and fresh orange juice.

it depends on your preference. warm temperatures is around south western states includes california, nevada, arizona, texas, new mexico. cost of living differ from the states mentioned, of course, depend on what kind of works you do, that will commensurate with what kind of living you wanted. beautiful places is everywhere, its up to you to pick the right one.
i know north western states are pretty places as well, but from what i have heard, their weather is cooler than south western states. that is why their trees and mountains are better compare to the south western.

Stay away from Michigan. Colorado doesn't really fit your climate wants but it is beautiful and even when it is winter it is still sunny. I guess it might be pricy though.
