Yes you can and in fact, when needed, you can use both at the same time. The dosage usually lasts for 4 hours, so give Tylenol (acetominaphen), then 2 hours later, give Motrin (ibuprofren). This should only be used for a high or stubborn fever or if suggested by doctor. Try the Motrin if you like, but Baby Oragel works WONDERS and I suggest that first...Also a peeled carrot with the ends cut off to chew on, a cold facecloth to chew on, rubbing his gums firmly, but not too hard may also work. Good Luck and Congrats.

Yes, you can give motrin instead of tylenol, however motrin has a slightly higher percentage of pain reliever so it's recommended that you give the motrin every 6 hours, especially if staggering it w/ tylenol given every four hours. But the teething tablets do work wonders for some babies who don't like orajel, my friend's one year old would throw a fit when she used orajel, so she used those instead. But my grandmother's home remedy for teething can work wonders too, and all you do is rub REAL vanilla extract on their gums w/ the tip of your finger. It has natural numbing agents and is less likely to upset baby's stomach. Good luck!

The very best product which I found works for teething pain is the Hurricane Topical Gel. A little bit goes a long way...really, so the container looks small, but you'll never have to buy another. (Unless you have another teether in the house.)
You can probably order it at your pharmacy, we did. But you can also purchase it online from Beutlich Pharmaceuticals.
Hurricane Gel is so much more effective than Orajel and the like!
I didn't believe it until a friend clued me in & now I wouldn't recommend anything else.

I would still call & find out from your doctor what the recommended dose of Motrin is for your baby & write it down somewhere...it can come in handy duriong those wakeful, worryful nights when your baby isn't well.
Good luck!

Contact your Pediatrician before you put your baby on any new medication. I believe I couldn't give my daughter
Motrin until after a year. But plz check w/ your Dr. first. I know at wal-mart they carry teething tablets, they are a life saver. They are very very small, and they dissolve instantly. I used to give them to my daughter when she was in that stage. Here is the sight on them, but as I said they are available at Wal-Mart, Walgreen's. Good luck.

You should always consult your doctor first. the same thing happened with my daughter, Tylonol never seemed to work, Motrin/ infant Advil always seemed to do the trick. another thing you have to be super careful when giving a baby Tylonol, its soooo easy to give them too much of it, basically overdosing them . and there has been many reports of accidental death do to overdose of Tylonol particularly infant Tylonol. Infant Motrin is great.
