Seven years. From what I understand of the statue of limitations.

general business records ...3 years
payroll/tax records 7 years
anything under investigation or related to hazardous waste 30 years.

save them for between 5-10 years

Seven years: I save them for ten years, if there is no inquiry they get tossed. For the first seven years, if there is any inquire, I save them for a second seven years.
