It would be a very good idea to do another academic year of teaching before you go further. Your teaching experience is an excellent start.
A degree in psychology is necessary; you could do this part time (e.g. through the Open University) or full time. If you go the OU route, you need to ensure that the courses you do are appropriate for graduate BPS recognition; the OU will give you all this information. Following that you will need to do a Master's degree in Educational Psychology to become a Chartered member of the BPS and work as an ed. psych.

You need a teaching qualification plus a psychology qualification approved by the British Psychological Society (BPS). You can get the BPS qualification (Bsc in Psychology ) via the Open University but make sure the units you take are approved by the BPS. The OU will advise you.

Ed psych has been in flux for a couple of years now but you need to have a BPS approved degree in psychology and experience..................... THATS IT! but it is HIGHLY competitive there are roughly 300 applicants to one university which only offer 12 funded placements.
therefore they are now accepting applicants from all backgrounds, social workers, students and teachers
but the difference is that its no longer a masters course but a 3 year doctorate where you get a basic pay as you learn and get training.
For applications, they have a system similar to UCAS where you apply to one place and they send your forms out to universities you've picked. Heres the website where you can apply:
