You could buy an external case? Plugs right into the USB.

Just hook up both hard drives with cables and make one master and the other slave by changing the jumpers on each, leave the one on the PC inside, and hold the other one outside while copying, then boot the computer with one of those CD's to partition hard disks that come with drives, most of HD manufacturers give them away when you buy a HD.
With that kind of software you can usually very easily transfer all the partition from one hard drive to the other hard drive, just wait until it finishes and you are done.
Then disconnect the second hard drive and put it where you want it to be.
But if you don't want to transfer everything that's in one HD to the other HD, then leave them connected both...boot to Windows, and you will see a second hard drive with a new letter (E: F:, etc.) just copy what you need from your C: to that other letter drive, and you are done.
If you want to boot from that other drive on another PC, then you will have to install first an operating system, before you transfer your files from one to the other as I said above, otherwise if there is no operating system that other HD won't boot on another PC, I have no idea what you want to copy your files from one HD to another for but anyway, I gave you some ideas.
Now, you can purchase an external USB hard drive and plug it into one of your PC's USB ports and it becomes a hard drive part of your PC, then you can transfer files back and forth easily, like if it was a flash drive, just a very big flash drive. - That's the best way to go, I have an external USB 2.0 160 GB since three years ago and I'm very pleased with it, it is still working like a charm.
I hope this helped.

Fine, I always leave the case open long enough to connect both hard drives to the pc and transfer files. Once transferred, you can sort out what you want later.
