The case of Thomas Hamilton and the Dunblane massacre resulted in several radical changes.

Thomas Hamilton was a pedophile that was left alone and allowed to run after school children's clubs, despite many, many warnings. He was mentally ill, but still managed to get a gun license.

He killed 16 infants and 2 adults in 1996, causing a national ban on hand guns and much tighter control on who can run children's clubs.

The other case is the Soham Murders, where Holly and Jessica were murdered by Ian Huntley.

Huntley had abused underage girls before, but the Police failed to swap details on sex offenders. This let Huntley gain employment as a school maintenance person & led to his contact with the 2 girls he killed.

The law was changed after this to ensure any adult applying for a role that involves contact with children, is put through major background checks first.
