All biographies are not the same. That's a pretty broad statement without any proof or merit. Every biographer brings a different perspective to the material of a person's life. Some may research in different ways or get access to totally unique background material.

If all biographies were the same, why bother writing new ones in the first place.

My suggestion for finding the best is to go to a site like Amazon.com or Powell's books and see what other readers like yourself have to say about the different available biographies.

Which biography is best is essentially a subjective opinion. Do you want the most factual? the most literate? If you want the factual best you'd have to do a lot of research to establish which author included the most facts in their book. Or, if you ask an English teacher, you might get their opinion about which author was the best writer. Can you be more specific?
