Because there is essentially no gravitational field to pull things "down"; indeed, there is no down or up in zero G.

Floating implies boyancy, being held up by something else.
There is gravity attracting all the "things" in space (including the planet earth) to each other, but not always enough to cause them to collide (yet.)
How did they get to be separated in the first place, is another question.

"Space" itself is so unimaginably large that most objects are so far apart as to not effect a gravitational pull on eachother.
Things do not in fact "float" in space, most planets revolve around a star or "sun".
If they are out in deep space then there is no pull on them and they float infinetly aimlessly around.
A lot of things float but a lot of things are caught in gravity fields.

Depends on what is floating. Most stuff in space is in a orbit.

Well, no gravity, duh.
Light things like humans and spaceships will "float", but they will not be in orbit like the planets.
The reason that planets are in orbits, is because their mass is so huge. The planets are attracted to eachother, just like humans and spaceships, but the planets are big enough to have an orbit. The smaller things (like humans and spaceships) are not big enough.

well they do not float
if ur talking about asteroids and all that t,hen well if u think that is floatting
the earth is floating too!
if u meant people in a spaceshipo
then because there is no gravity

Because there is nothing to produce sufficient gravity. Space is a vacuume, I think this is something to do with the ammount of gravidy.

simple , there is no gravity.other heavenly bodies also exert their gravitational field but it is not strong enough to attract an object at such a large distance ,so stuff floats.
