Well, I have a common name with an uncommon spelling, and personally, I love it - I feel like it makes me unique... :) But I appreciate your input.

Additionally, I'm planning on the nicknames being Karie and Katie.

Karallyn & Katharyn. That's really cute and they have the A's in common.

Its all up to you and their father. My name isn't spelt the traditional way. Yeah its sometimes bothersome to correct people, but it isnt that bad. I even chose the non traditional way of spelling my own son's name.

Its also going to change the way the names are pronounced, so don't just go by what they look like, say them out loud or have someone say them to you.

On the other hand I like Karellyn and Katheryn. Not too many a's and still similar.

How about a common spelling Caroline and Katherine so people aren't guessing at their names for their whole life. Also, remember that although they are twins and that is special, they are also individuals and should be named as such. Celebrate the fact that you are blessed with two UNIQUE babies who should not grow up to think they are a set, but rather two special little girls who happen to share the same birthday. Congrats X2.

I'd go with traditional spellings too. People who have oddly spelled names (like my wife) usually hate having to correct people all the time.

I'll throw out a couple of new ones:

Carolyn and Catherine (both are pretty traditional)

Personally I like the traditional spelling of most names.
I have a common name with unusual spelling and really hated it as a kid, so I gave my kids traditional spellings of their names.
One of which is Katherine, she likes to go by Kate.
