Great Q! Both were (& are) equally exceptional in their own right. Both have had significant impact on the music industry and many of today's musicians have been influenced by their talents. Both have a lasting legacy that will continue for years to come. Personally I would have to choose Cash. His music spoke to millions and he remained a very humble man throughout his career and life. Elvis was a bit pompous at times.

Johnny Cash, Elvis was dead long before he actually died, his manner of death, as with all the others like him, is what has caused him to live on in infamy. I am not saying Elvis was not great but he was not going to continue on the way Cash did throughout his life.
Johnny Cash all the way.
