The pan was used to boil a ham in Coke (great recipe, tastes fantastic), however it boiled dry and there is now a thick mess of hardened sugar and tar marks all over it.

Try adding water and washing up liquid and then heating up again on the stove, allowing the water to boil and dissolve the hardened sugar. Then, while it's hot, transfer to the sink and add hot water and wash normally. That might work - I've used it in the past to get rid of very hardened food that's stuck to the bottom of pans.

Put a little fabric softener in the pan with really hot water, let it sit over night and volia clean pan. this usually works for me. Next time use those pan liners, that's what I use when I make my ham, that way I don't have to clean up a nasty pan. I know what kind of ham you are talking about and it is good. Happy cleaning

Best way ever to loosen baked on food & grease is use biological washing powder. Make a strong solution & then warm it up on the stove (heat makes the enzymes in the washing powder work)

You can use this on burnt roasting tins as well. Kim & Aggie used it on a cooker top by heating up a thick paste of this with a hairdryer. Works a treat.

Boil up Bicarbonate of soda in water in the pan - let it simmer for 1/2 hour then cool and the crud will wash out of the pan xxx

You could try a method of de-glazing. Place some wine in the pan and heat up. The acid from the wine might help break up the sugar and tar so you can clean it up. Good Luck to you. I too like to bake my ham/roast in a can of diet cook. Smells good and taste even better. Good Luck to you and your pan!

The method I use is to use salt water in the pan. Boil it and let it boil for a while. I've found this always works.

Fill with water and add some denture cleaning tablets (depending on how large your pan is) and let set over night. Usually just wipes clean in the morning

fill it with water and set it on the stove to boil for a few minutes. This will dissolve the sugar, and loosen the "tar."

BTW, your recipe sounds gross.

SOS pad...
I am in the cleaning business and here is our secret!
Try this cleaning cloth. You have to buy in packages of 5 but they are only like $3 bucks a piece. I have ordered them and use them on everything, especially cleaning windows and clean mirrors. They are made out of tiny fibers. They are guaranteed not to scratch and all you do is rinse the cloth under water, wring it out and wipe ANY surface with no streaks or scratch. Use em over and over. I have not thrown one away yet!
I am sold on this ...I encourage you to try it out….hope this helps…Steve

Fill with water and put on stove, simmer (a long time). Keep the water full and change it if it gets too gooey. It even works for burned on goop. If you like, you can put your choice of additive (ie vinegar) in the last change of water.
Best wishes!
