Historically Scotsmen never wore anything underneath their kilts because a real kilt is made from yards and yards of heavy tartan and it would just be far too hot to wear something underneath.
Nowadays the kilts aren't made from so much material, but a true Scotsman should honour the tradition anyway - no matter how gusty it is!!!

Contary to an earlier answer not all people who live in Scotland are scottish. Personally I don't wear a kilt over my underwear!

properly i'm a Scottish female and to be basic adult males basically ever placed on kilts at weddings and maximum of them placed on underpants/boxer shorts, even however there are nevertheless some who stay as much as custom and placed on no longer something below it,and that they take large exhilaration in telling you so.
