If so, what plan is best for an occasional long distance call and emergency purposes?

I guess it's called "prepaid", where you pay for your minutes in advance and are charged 25 cents per min. I just got one and that's what I chose because I only want if for VERY limited use....( got it for Christmas and not used it yet). The minutes will carry over if you buy more before their period is over.

EDIT>>>>>>>>>

It's 25 cent per min, Flat Rate Plan. As Manatee said, some plans do cost $!.00 per day, BUT NOT THIS ONE -- just a flat 25c per min. I just now looked at my account online to be sure.

Plans depends on the state you live in,
click on this site and enter your zip code and it should show you all the plans,

Since you need for occasional long distance and emergency calls, you need their lowest calling plan.

T-mobile have cheaper rates by the way.

i had the go phone, its good that you can call anyone you want from the country and not charge extra but it still sucks cause they charge you a dollar a day. might as well get a real plan.

thats why i dont have it anymore
