There are various bits of the world that are owned by the former colonial nations where there is contention. The Falklands (Malvinas) and Gibraltar are the two prime British ones, but what do Moroccans feel about the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Mellila, that nestle on the Moroccan littoral. How would America feel if we Britons had a naval base on Staten Island. What of Taiwan or the South Spratly Islands? All these are potential conflict zones.

I do feel that our Argentinian chap has a point. As a Briton, I might be a bit peeved if the Argentinians occupied the Isle of Wight.

Where sovereignty is at stake, the matter should be referred to the International Tribunal at The Hague. Argentina, having disposed of its corrupt Junta of Galtieri times, is a Nation worth cultivating, and it is silly that our relations should be prejudiced for the sake of 1500 ex-pats and about 2 million sheep

Foghorn I'm sorry, but I don't agree the matter of the Falklands. The Falklands issue was a time when Empires were still being built. You can't compare grabbing the Isle of Wight to the Falklands it was a different age and people thought differently Then. I'm sure if Argentina was a world power in those days it would have had an empire of it's own.
I don't know how to deal with the Falklands but as the resident appear to want to remain with Britain it's a problem that won't be solved that easily.

Unfortunately, you can't go back nearly 200 years like that. In a perfect world, UK shouldn't have settled the Falklands / Malvinas and they should be Argentinian.

However, the wish of the current inhabitants of the islands should be the determining factor in sovereignty. As long as the inhabitants want the islands to remain British, they should remain British. If at any time, the population wishes to embrace Argentinian sovereignty, the UK should hand over the islands.
