Because the drugs are readily avaliable and because its just accepted as a 'part' of the celebrity lifestyle. Any other reasons are probably the same as those non-celebrity-drug users have. They want to feel the high, they want to escape their problems, they crumble under pressure.
If you ask me, they're all idiots.

A lot of celebrities probably use drugs because they are stressed and/or to become thinner. I heard can make people extremely thin, to the point of being at an unhealthy weight.

Celebrities feel stressed and always get embarrassed and exploited by the paparazzi. They fell that only way to get out of it is to try some drugs. When they take the drug, it feels like that they need the drug, that it feels good for them. That's when the addiction starts. But since the paparazzi is always on their butts they find out easily, and that puts a bigger deal of stress on the celebrities.

Because money and fame don't bring happiness and joy.
We all fill our lives with things because something is missing, something we need isn't there. For celebrities, they have fame and people fawning over and wanting them, they have more money than they could spend in their lifetime and they are having offers handed to them to make more. They have all the things that we would look at as the 'American Dream' but they are not satisfied, not happy. So they turn to things that won't fulfill them and end up using and destroying them.
It's because they don't have Jesus Christ.

I think it's because they could get more fame. You know, all the magazines post anything they can about celebrities! Celebs wants to be known around the world, doing drugs is going to get people to know them more... but as a bad person.

i think they used for different purposes. some for enjoyment so they can be among wild folks or self entertainment. some used it just to be "high" so they can ignore what's really going on with their lives. some do it cause they have the means to get it. some camouflage their true "issue" that taking it may subside the inner troubles they having. some take it cause of too much burden that they cannot handle.
in my opinion, all of it is bad for their health and bad influence to the fans who idolize celebrity for their behavior. i know they are also human but they should not advertise it since they are in the public limelight, they should watch what they do. fans look up to them and they should be a role model.

Mostly the girls do it because they want to stay thin... for instence: Lindsey Lohan, Nicold Richie, Keira Knightly, Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, Jodie Sweetin
That's the reason why they are so think and so weak it's because they use dangerous drugs to keep themselves thin.
