Who would win in a war between Iran and the United States?

Would this be considered World War III ? If so, would it bascially become the West vs the Musliims?

We could bomb Iran into the stone age without any troops on the ground, then fly over to N Korea with the same. It my not be fair but the terrorist don't fight fair either.

Iran.

Attacking Iran would not be a good thing on many levels.
1. Enriching plutonium to weapons grade levels needs at least an 80% enrichment, Iran cannot exceed 5% yet. Despite Bush's pleadings, they are not even close. The WMD claims, as usual, are a lie.
2. Our troop levels are poor. 80% of our troops are either in Iraq & Aphganistan or recovering from being there. We haven't the manpower.
3. An invasion would truly upset Russia, and Putin has told Bush this.
4. The people of Iran have hated us since we put the Shah in back in the 50's(?). Regime change won't fly over there.
5. Despite their hatred, most of them are still innocents. Bombing civillians because we don't like their leaders is what got us in trouble in Iraq.
6. Iraq was marginalized and defenseless. Iran is not. It is larger, more mountainous and strategically placed to stop the flow of oil leaving the area in barges. US-Hummerland will be shut down.
7. Nuking Iran would severly anger the entire region, along with China and Russia, then WWIII would definitely be here.

Looking at the way the US army is handling Iraq and Afghanistan I would say Iran.And we shouldn't underestimate Iran's capability of defending itself...
As for if it would be considered WW3,thinking that this conflict
won't involve just those 2 countries,yes it might develop into another world war...
And no.It is not going to be West vs Muslims...There are many countries who wouldn't support US ...among them are Russia and China...

i ought to assert Iran ought to win through default. mostly because our militia is stretched skinny and wiped out from battling 2 previous wars that resulted in disaster and did not bypass properly as planned. Iran's militia hasn't had a contested conflict because the Iran/Iraq conflict of the Eighties. And their militia is--i believe--0.33 or fourth interior the area and under no circumstances someone we ought to continually underestimate gently.

Being that the US has the enough nukes to turn the entire world into a giant microwave, Iran would stand little chance.

A previous post said that most of the US military's troops are over in Iraq and Afghanistan...did you pull that one straight out of your ****?
Our military strength, though diminished a bit due to our former candy-assed president Clinton, is far greater than you seem to think.

Yes and no to both question. Yes U.S. would win all out war, and control Iran gov't. But U.S. cannot control people like in Iraq. Many U.S. military casuilty after the War and would wonder if it was worth it and pull out after 50,000 + u.s. soilders kill. Yes it would trigger mini WW 3. It would be muslim nation vs. U.S. & Israel. Other western nation would not join the war with U.S. just because they don't like u.s. and would not want to upset middle east countries because so much resource (OIL) and money is involved. But Israel will have to join U.S. because Muslim nation will strike againt U.S. and Israel.

Iran of course, he is a very power full country, and China, Russia are backing up Iran. And remember something look at the history, USA never attacks a country more power full then him, Bush is just barking! He will never attack Iran.

Difficult to say. But the US will definitely be a Loser as in Iraq. No victors likely.
