Depends where you are visiting. If you are going to the jungles than a Malaria shot would be advisable, otherwise my recommendation would be a Hepatitis shot.
Contrary to many people believe Malaysia and Singapore are very advance (especially Singapore) but if you are like me and love to try all types of food & not just McDonalds, then Hepatitis shots is vital.
There is not need to get flu or other shots. Heck I have lived in Michigan for 5 years & never got one. Flu is flu. Drink your OJ & your Vit C & you are all set.

Below I have given you a URL for the WHO; that's the World Health Organization's site, directly to the Malaysian page, so you can look for yourself. That's just for your education.
I would recommend that you have shots for Hepatitis if you are not leaving too soon as those have to be given over a period of time. I belive it's 3 shots over a six month period.
It really depends how long you are going to be there, and WHERE most importantly you are going to be. If you are going to just be in a hotel in KL, then you just need the basic battery of tourist shots; cholera, hep, tetanus booster, take malaria pills with you or follow instructions of your doctor on them. I mean I wouldn't go getting all paranoid unless your gonna be out in the "kampung" (the villages) for several months. The first time I went to Asia, I didn't take any shots.
But I will tell you this. PARASITES!!!!! Amoebas! Be very, very, careful whenever you are in any Asian country. Don't even think about drinking the water. I don't care how many times they tell you they have boiled that water. If you are a tourist I would make sure that they are making my coffee and tea with AQUA. And that goes for brushing your teeth too. PARASITES. Don't eat on the streets! Make sure your food is cooked and hot when you eat it. Because they are Muslim you don't have to worry, you won't see much PORK around. I wouldn't eat any pork if I were you.
Anyway, KL is a clean city. Muslim people are very, very, clean cooks. If you are in a hotel it will be very clean. And remember, if you have a doubt, don't eat it.
Stick to normal restaurants and leave the little roadside stalls to the locals and ex-pats that have lived there for a long time.
Have fun. It's a wonderful country.

I went to my town's travel clinic before I went and got some injections: Flu, Typhoid, and Hepatitis B. I recommend going to your local travel clinic, they will advise you on what immunizations to get and also other general travel tips.
