ok so when i try to start it, it sounds like it is turning over and sometimes it will even act like it will start but if i give it gas or dont give it gas it still just shuts off. it has a newer alternator in it so that shouldnt be the problem.

well it will not start every time it does once in every 5 attempts or around there. and when it does start it only stays running for a couple of seconds

ok so i just talked to the original owner and he said if the gas goes under about a quarter of a tank it wont start. so what might be the cause of this problem?

Sounds like a fuel pump problem - this thing requires 41+ PSI pressure to start which in conjunction with really bad fuel pump makes the described condition more than typical.

Check the basics, such as spark plugs, air filter, fuel pump, and such. Your battery could also be bad. Also, check the ignition coil, that could definitely be the problem.

My guess...Bad fuel pump. Starts and dies, starts and dies, starts and dies......
