Once you have the music box, just keep it with you in your toolbox. If you use it it will crumble. It's also advisable to give your lead pokémon a no-stick cap, as it will be useless if it becomes sticky.

Mew will appear on any of the floors between floors 36 and 98. It will only appear once throughout the dungeon. Mew will often give itself away by using transform, which will tell you that it's around. It has a very low recruitment chance, so you will have to keep on trying. It took me about 5 attempts before I recruited mew. Now its level 100. When you recruit it, it will be at level 40 and you will automatically leave the dungeon. It's size category 1 so as long as you have a space and no size categroy 4 pokémon in your team, you have a chance. It will have any four of the following moves when you find it.
