Talk to real people online? No, there are none. They all suck. All boring, repetetive grinds.

Diablo II is okay, I suppose. And Maple Story has its own charm. As does Kingdom of Loathing. EVE online looks pretty interesting.

Talk to computer-controlled characters? Fallout. Seriously, if you haven't played Fallout, play Fallout. Best RPG series EVER.
