Actually, I think that I overextended one time while picking her up and now it hurts when I try to do exercises. It's not unbearable but was wondering what I could have done and would it heal itself?

At 31 pounds...have her walk more. Use other arm to carry.

You are just overusing it. Over time it will get better. If she is already 31 pounds then i assume she is old enough to walk...?? Let her start doing that and tell her why...
An x-ray wont do any good unless you have had an injury. For pain you could take ibuprofen or advil which are the best. For even worser pain you could take an antiimflammatory which is to be prescribed by your physician. Do not take Aspirin products along with this medication.

I did the same thing. It will heal itself just takes alot of time. If she can walk let her walk . If not try not to carry her if you can use a stroller. If you have to lift her up squat down and hug her to your body and lift with your legs and use both arms instead of one .
I was the worlds worst about carrying my son on one hip until I hurt my shoulder.

It sure sounds like carrying 3- 10 lb. bags of potatoes (or the equivalent) would do it.

If you've hurt something in there, my experience is that it'll take about 2 years to heal. Don't BUG the sore spot!

You need some rest, some time for yourself. Soothex would be good idea and EFT. Be sure to eat well, take also some vitamins to have enough calcium in our body. Of course see a doctor as needed and do not worry enjoy your live with your daughter.

If she is able to Let Her Walk, this will help trim her down and your shoulder will begin to heal.

You have probably damaged the rotator cuff, it is painful and takes a long time to heal. The lifting will keep it damaged.

try to give that arm some rest...it should get better...if it doesn't in a period of a few months without carrying your daughter, you should see a physical or occupational therapist.
