It's human nature. People are insecure and need confirmation from other people, and also many people are natural conformists, especially those with low intellects. Personally, I think if you are sure of yourself you shouldn't need any other assholes to tell you otherwise. I hate people.

Deep down in our genetic roots we are tribal -- like groups of chimpanzees -- our survival depends on the cooperation and support of the group. So if the group dislikes us, life can be miserable, and if the group rejects us, we die. That makes what others think of us fairly important.
On the other hand, the civilization we've built provides so many avenues of support that many of us can afford to ignore, to some extent, what people think. As long as we live (mostly) within the law, folks will leave us alone. And of course, caring TOO much about what others think leaves no room for self-discovery. It's the geniuses (original thinkers) among us who provide the advances, both technically and spiritually.

Our society has a problem with self-esteem, so they need social acceptance to be at peace with themselves. We are an aesthic society. The spirit man does not matter as much, most of that comes from being so diverse and becuase of advertisement.

knowing what other people think is survival. the more we know what others think the more we know about us. other people's opinion is like a mirror to our inner self. Wether is business, volunteering, helping or just living in general, it is by other people's opinion that shows us the right (or sometimes wrong) way. So yes, care about other people opinions it will make you look, feel, think and live better. Aways consult different opinions think about them a bit carefully and act according your logic and instinct. very easy :)

I think everyone should care to a point. If someone didn't care about screaming at a fellow human being, that is just wrong. But if it had to do with how they look and stuff like that, they shouldn't care. (to a point of course)

Everyone cares to a point. People need each other. We have to conform to fit in. Fitting in means you have a support network to help you.

I don't know! It's so stupid. I personally never do. But I guess it's just the way most people are.
