I need glasses for reading, but do not need them for distance. Am I a canidate for Lasik? My vision was always 20/13 until a few years ago. I'm now 50 and want that old eyesight back.

I'm in the military and had PRK surgery on my eyes before coming to Iraq. I say this only because I found out there are a number tests and measurements that must be performed before one can be a candidate for Lasik or PRK surgery. A person can't just decide they want it done. As long as you don't have glaucoma or grossly misshapen eyes, you probably will be a candidate. The only definite way to know is to visit an ophthalmologist. Good luck. By the way, I'm thrilled with my results and happy to be free of the glasses.

It depends on how thick the cornea of your eye is, and only a doctor can determine that by taking measurements. If you wear contacts, especally hard lens, they will want to take several measurements over a few months. The procedure works by cutting away part of the cornea to make it thinner. The worse your eyesight, the more material that has to be removed.
You probably will not get 20/13 back; just 20/20 or 20/30 is what they seem to shoot for.
