No! Don't do it. It's been proven that the hot water causes early labor, therefore in early pregnancy, will cause miscarriage. Only take baths in lukewarm water. Otherwise, take a shower.

Do you mean a day spa, or a sauna? At a day spa, you are safe to get things such as facial, manicure, pedicure, waxing, even prenatal massage. Do NOT go for the hot herbal wraps or scrubs, any laser treatments, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, etc. If you're talking bout a sauna, I would skip it until you're not pregnant. Saunas, hot tubs, really hot baths, etc can all raise your body temperature (which is even higher in your baby) and can result in an unsuitable environment for your baby, which in turn may lead to miscarriage. Just play it safe until after delivery. Good luck!

When you use the term spa, are you referring to a Jacuzzi or a Spa where you receive facials, massage and other services?
While it is clearly bad to get overheated in pregnancy, and doctors recommend avoiding hot baths, research has shown that when a pregnant woman's body temperature begins to rise, she usually feels awful and gets herself out of the tub.
Hot Tubs
Some studies have shown that women who sit in a hot tub or Jacuzzi are twice as likely to miscarry as women who do not. The risk increases the earlier a woman uses a Jacuzzi in her pregnancy. It is thought that while adults can stand the high temperatures of hot tubs, fetuses can't.
I recommend that you ask your obstetrical practitioner about his or her views on whirlpools baths for you.
As for a day spa or resort spa, there are some services and products that pregnancy would be a contraindication for. The spa can advise you which of their services are acceptable or unacceptable for an expectant mother. If you have concerns, ask your obstetrical practitioner.

Most spa's won't perform any service besides like a mani and pedi w/o a dr's release. they say that some of the pressure points they use during the massage can couse miscarriage. Don't get in a hot tub!! Or a really hot bath. Extream heat can cause spinabifida.

I've had 5 children, ages 4-19, my parents own a hot tub, doctor told me to stay out of them, I used it anyways due to the horrible back pain. All kids were and still are very healthy! The hot tub water was 102, I never stayed in longer than 30 minutes...yes, 30 min! I had very healthy pregancies so that might make a difference. Are you already in good health? Were not doctors and I can tell you the doctors tell you to stay away from hot tubs. Good luck

My in-laws have a hot tub and I asked my doctor if it was alright for me to go in it. He said no because the temperature of the water would raise my body temperature, therefore raising the baby's which can cause some problems. I guess you could lower the temperature of the water to body temperature at 98-99 degrees, but it wouldn't feel as good, to me anyway.

It's not safe to go into a spa your entire pregnancy or sauna's. Your doctor's office should give you papers with info, what's safe and what's not.

It is recommended that you not take baths or go in hot tubs over 100 degrees, as it raises the baby's temperature without you even knowing about it and causing potential brain damage.
you take so many precautions when pregnant, what is one more???

yes it will not hurt your baby, but don't stay in as long as you normally would have and when you feel you are overheating, get out. A baby will be fine as long as your body temperature does not rise above 101 for an extended period of time.
I think it is one of those fine line like drinking. My German OB says it is fine and It is okay to drink a small amount too. But I know American OB's say the exact opposite.

avoid any sort of baths or sauna any treatment involving your body being exposed to high levels of heat. avoid massages too other than the "prenatal massage" (never heard of it but sounds nice and safe! thanx naiya! ) just opt for a mani, pedi and facial. i wouldnt do anything other than that.
