I'm stuck in the first temple on The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess. I have defeated the boss monkey with the boomerang, and freed all but one of the smaller monkeys. The one I have not been able to free is located near the final boss room, in a cavern beneath a smaller cavern in which you face two large spiders. Once these two spiders were defeated I made my way into the lower cavern, defeated anothe spider, and then tried to use my boomerang to carry the bomb to the cage. This didn't work. Please help. 10 points and my admiration to the most specific answer.

You're going about it all wrong lad. You don't use bombs to free the monkey. I made that mistake myself the first time I came to this section.
If you search around the room above, you should see some spider webs covering holes. Burn the centre most one with your lantern and then drop down. You'll now be on the platform the cage is on. Now just smash the cage with your sword.

On the top section of that room, there are three spider webs on the ground. Burn the one on the left, and you'll fall down onto the platform with the monkey.
