There is no excuse for abortions, ladies keep your legs closed. Should you get pregnant by a rape, I am truely sorry, and feel for your pain, but everything that happens to us in our lives is suppose to happen. Everything that we go through is all apart of our life plan.

Let me tell you ALL something, an unborn child is a life, it has a soul just like me and you and just because, it isn't outside like we are doesn't mean a d*mn thing. The child inside of a woman already has a beating heart the same as you and I! Some may look at it as a medical decision, but you my friend are truely wrong. The whole idea of an abortion is the "get rid of" or should I just say what the truth is KILL an unborn baby. Because from the moment of conception, that is a living human being! People need to wake up and face reality! KILLING IS KILLING reguardless of wheather it is a baby in their mother's womb or a baby of a mother who may be 30 years old. People wake up and face the truth! KILLING IS KILLING NO MATTER WHAT!

There is no difference in my mind. In the recent news a man attending a football game was charged with murder for simply getting into an argument with a man who had a heart condition. The aggitation from the argument caused the man with the heart condition to die unexpectedly. How the legal system can cry "murder" in such a case while simultaneously allowing unborn babies to be killed is an unacceptable double standard.
Pro-abortionists are quick to label abortion as a "right to choose" issue, saying the government shouldn't be able to tell them what to do with their bodies. I have to laugh because the government has always told us what we can and can't do with out bodies, and for good reason. For example, it's illegal to inject heroin, it's illegal to stand nude in our driveways and it's illegal to smoke in public settings. The government has an obligation to enforce rulings that affect our bodies when the actions we take can have adverse effects on other humans. Abortion is certainly no different.
Some women have told me that my opinion doesn't matter because I'm male. But if abortion is viewed as a moral, ethical or human rights issue, the male viewpoint can't be ignored.
I would rather see stronger laws and enforcement against rape than see the life of an innocent baby snuffed out for the convenience of a would-be mother. Two wrongs -- as we all know -- never make a right.
Bob G (above) says that abortion should be allowed because anti-abortionists refuse to take in the "unwanted" children. He goes on to say that our beliefs are "unworkable." This type of thinking is what gets our society in trouble. Let's say Bob is against bank robberies. Does that mean that Bob is willing to use his house as a jail for bank robbers just because the prisons are overcrowed? If not, then I guess bank robbery should be legalized. After all, if there aren't enough jail cells, then enforcing a law against bank robbery is simply "unworkable."
Thanks,
Matthew

The abortion topic is so divisive because we define what a life or person is differently. If everyone agreed with you that a fetus is a lfe- a person, then abortion would be outlawed no doubt. Problem is, many people do not think that a fetus, at least during the first trimester, is a life/person yet. They believe that it may be a potential life/person, but that it has not reached personhood yet because it is not conscious (which they infer from the underdevelopment of the prefrontal cortex, I believe). And those who don't think it becomes a person until, say the 3rd trimester may not be as vehemently opposed to abortion as you. Who's right? Well, the answer to this question invokes complicated questions of medicine, biology, theology, philosophy, neurology, and many others. Given the vast array of subjects which the abortion topic implicates, there is authority on both sides of the aisle. St. Thomas Aquinas (eminent Theologian) shared your views. He thought that one the sperm and the egg met, the zygote (I think) was ensouled. However, modern neurology and the great weight of philosophy believe that consciousness defines personhood and that fetuses are not conscious until the brain reaches a certain stage of development. This stage is not reached until around the thrid trimester.
So, given the split, how do we resolve this issue? Perhaps there is no way to completely resolve it,but we can at least understand that our disagreement is reasonable. People have different operative definitions of life.
As to your determinacy argument (everything happens for a reason)- if you believe that, then you can't blame a woman for committing abortion because, under that view of life, even abortion would happen for a reason, right? And if abortion doesn't happen for a reason, why do you say that rape does? They are both, I presume, equally deplorable to you, right? It is best if we view human life as being about choices, and if we believe that, then we must say that a rape didn't occur because of some divine plan; rather it happened because some predator chose to rape. If we view life like this, then we can properly censure the rapist's action; if we think he lacked choice to not rape, we cannot so abhor his action. I would reccomend that you think this problem through because I sensed some inconsistency in your question (no offense).

I don't know how many times this argument needs to be explained to you, but here goes: abortion is legal to keep it safe. It has been going on since sex has, because there will always be a situation where someone becomes pregnant, and does not want to, or cannot support a child. And you can't try to promote abstinence, because sex feels amazing, and there isn't anything wrong with it for some people. Furthermore, the majority (and by that I mean almost every single one) of abortions are completed before the unborn could live on it's own, or with the assistance of machines. Murder is killing someone who is alive, and who has an identity. How can you murder something that hasn't been born yet?

I, too, think abortion is wrong. But, just as adamantly, I believe legislating against it is just as wrong. Abortion is a MORAL issue, not a Legal one. Whether one has an abortion or not should be up to the person in question, their medical professionals, and the God of their choice. Society and the Legal System needs to stay out of it. We have enough legislation as it is, and we don't need any more based solely on the desires of the over the edge conservatives in this country. We have enough Big Brother in our lives today. What's right for one isn't necessarily right for another. And I don't want you or anybody else telling me what I can or can't do.
Yes, an unborn baby IS a soul, and that soul can NOT be destroyed. It goes right back to God.

Would you oppose surgery to remove a tumor? Would you oppose the scraping of my foot to remove an infestation of plantar warts? The warts I had removed from my foot had more life and activity than a clump of cells. Apparently, the small clump of cells has more value and worth than the unspeaking, unmoving, boring patch of plantar warts. It seems this is an "All life is holy*" situation.
What, then, decides which life has a soul that needs to be saved, a life worthy of birth at all costs? Religion. YOUR beliefs. I encourage you to read the first amendment:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
In other words, freedom of religion. Specifically, no laws made regarding religion. Yet religion is what backs your entire argument that each fetus must be born and saved.
Am I pro-abortion? Absolutely not. Very few of us are pro-abortion. It's a terrible thing that is a worst-case scenario. I do, however, support the choice for an abortion. I am a male. I will be the one who has to pay eighteen years of child support should an abortion not be an option, effectively ruining my life.
Pro-choice does not affect anyone else at all, while pro-life will have devestating effects should it be put in place.

Rape is something that is suppose to happen? No woman should ever have to go through the physical and mental abuse of being raped. You feel their pain? Obviously you don't or you wouldn't think there was some good that comes out of rape.
There are many excuses for abortion. Many medical reasons make an abortion neccessary. Or events like rape happen and the mother doesn't want to go through with the pregnancy. To many, what they are carrying early on in a pregnancy is not a person...not yet. So that wouldn't be considered killing anyone.

Abortion is a touchy subject. Everyone has their own opinion and feelings on it. The best way to answer your question is by giving examples and being non biased. Look at this: People can not skip over the fact that we (in the US) live in a country that is prided on freedom. If someone has been tramautised by rape, it's not a good feeling to hear someone say "Sorry you were rape...get over it and deal" or if a woman is told "Mrs. So and So, if you carry this baby to full term, you and the baby will die (or the baby will not live a good life)" and it's not a good feeling to hear someone say "Sorry you will die if you carry the baby...get over it and deal" or if someone was malested by a family member, it's not a good feeling to hear someone say "Sorry your uncle got you pregnant...get over it and deal" You can look at it this way or you can say that your views conqure others views. Personally, I'm against women who use abortion as a form of birth control. I know this lady who had FIVE abortions! That's ridiculous.

How old are you anyway?
I guess it's OK in your world for a family member to molest and rape children and teenagers and get them pregnant, so they should have to carry a child to term because of a dysfunctional and sick male family member or older male figure? Grow up, will you?
EDIT-Listen, little girl, how arrogant are you that you know what someone's life plan should be? And if the baby asked to be aborted or not? Maybe you should try educating yourself and looking at other viewpoints? Try reading some James Van Praag, you'll get some ideas about what a SOUL chooses. Maybe you won't be so arrogant with some education and a little life experience behind you. Go away and let the adults have an intelligent discussion.

So do you kill ants when they invade your house? If you see a spider on the wall do you smash it? Do you exfoliate you skin? All of these actions are killing. I seriously doubt that you are as holy as you tell people you are. Abortion is a fact of life, and should be left up to the individual person as to whether or not it is right for them. I know plenty of women that have done it, and have never been happier.
Would it be better for a woman to have a child that was unwanted and hate it for its entire life? Clearly, no other opinion will get through to you so I will not continue.

It's subjective whether abortion is killing a human being or not. Is it in fact a human? You have your opinion and others have theirs. You have every right to live by your beliefs. You do not have the right to force your belief system on anybody. Nor do you have the right to force somebody to bring a child into this world unwanted and often uncared for. Are you also opposed to birth control? From your statement it sounds like it. That's a serious flaw in thinking because birth control is a necessity in this world if we are going to stop over population. The blind refusal to accept birth control is unrealistic and dangerous to the entire world.
I've held the position that I will take anti abortion people seriously when they start taking in and caring for all the unwanted children they are forcing on others. Unless an abortion or birth control opponent can't show me where they are doing that I completely disregard their unworkable beliefs.
