As I surf through the questions and answers I have noticed so many grossly misspelled words that my head is spinning. I understand the occasional transposed letter, but come on people!
This thing is equipped with spelling checkers. What is the percentage of postings with horribly misspelled words and awful grammar?

Did you know that 47.6% of statistics are fabricated right on the spot? ;) Really folks, thanks for all the good answers. Too bad only one may be chosen as "best".

Are you really expecting an answer to this question, or is it merely rhetorical? If the former, I'd say 67%. That seems a nice, precise-sounding figure.

Actually what annoys me more than bad spelling and grammar on here is the people who submit questions without any kind of context, so no one knows what they're talking about. The 'What is happening in Chapter Three?' kind of question. That and people who ask questions that they could find the answers to in thirty seconds if they just googled.

Anyone who has used this sight can't help but notice that bad grammar runs rampant here. It can be annoying for people who generally don't have trouble with spelling or who take the time to use spellcheck programs which are easy to use.

I don't think there is an easy way to answer your question accurately even if one had the time and the resources. As you know, the amount of questions and answers here accumulate exponentially by the second. It would be safe to say that the percentage is quite high on a daily basis.

However, a current study is being undertaken at this time to gauge the percentage of people who post random thoughts, statements and words that are not actually questions. It is thought that this percentage is much higher than that of the spelling school drop-outs.

By default, Yahoo! Answers automatically tags a question mark on each so-called 'question' posted by a user if they did not type one themselves. So if one's post is not actually a question, such posts will always be grammatically incorrect which can be far more annoying than a few words that are spelled wrong.

Very many, although precision is impossible. There are, of course, many people using Answers whose native tongue is not English, so we must make some allowances - do they have an English spellcheck, does any one know? The, of course, there are the differences between American and UK spellings. I use Firefox as my browser, which spellchecks as I go along. I get fed up with it telling me 'programme' is a misspelling for an item on TV for example!

I agree with the answer who complained about people not using their commonsense and using search engines. One of my bugbears are those who are constantly asking - almost on a daily basis - the times of trains between various towns and cities on the Indian sub-continent and who cannot be bothered to look back and see the fact that the site they need to look at has been quoted umpteen times before.

It also annoys me (whilst I am having a peeve) that some answers are clearly cut and pasted direct from something like Wikipedia. I think answerers should either just give the link or say thy are quoting,

At least 50% but most probably more. Some of the mis-spellings can lead to a fairly comical question that is ripe for answers other than what may have been expected.

those that pay interest to the clergy and do not look at the scriptures themselves can't see any prophecy that has been fulfilled. there is one prophecy of the prophet Daniel that anybody that knows heritage in view that 1914 can't deny that the scriptures are a correct for-teller of international events. Daniel noted a beast a disgusting beast that ought to come to capacity interior the stunning days, Daniel beast represented authorities or political capacity, that is defined in scripture, besides this beast ought to come into capacity and then must be dissolved, then come lower back into capacity again only to bypass off into destruction. we are living immediately in this prophecy, what kind of authorities got here into capacity, then became dissolved, then got here lower back into capacity in our time? In 1919 the League of international places became formed, it claimed it ought to deliver about international peace, for this reason it is said as a disgusting component, international peace will only be presented about through God's Kingdom governed through Christ. What take position to the League of international places?, it became dissolved even as WW2 began, so it became a beast that became, then isn't. Then after WW2 the United countries became kind through the same governments that formed the League of international places, in view that WW2 outbreak smashed to products the declare that the League ought to deliver about international peace they couldn't have it the same call, so as that they replaced it to the United countries, the scriptures say this beast to will fail and could be destroyed, so so that you could assert we are living interior the midst of a prophecy that became written some 4000 years in the past. Daniel has different prophecy that are occurring immediately or maybe ones that were fulfilled, e mail me in case you go with them or ask any Jehovah's Witness. the first prophecy is Gen 3:15, and convinced there are one hundred's of prophesy which could be shown through a life like Bible pupil, yet do not ask the clergy, they do no longer recognize what's of their Bibles.

At least 90%. What I hate even more are the people that think they are being cute by writing in slang. (EX. cuz, bf,gf,lol) I understand what those things are, but when an entire question is written that way, it annoys the hell out of me. It also worries me about the kind of education our world is teaching about grammar. Though, the usual offenders seem to be from the U.S. Go figure.

Lol. I don't know. It annoys the heck out of me, too. I would guess 99% of postings have misspelled words. Nobody takes the time to make their statements look neat. The one that annoys me most? Lose/Loose...Ah!!!!

I find that most of the errors are using the wrong form of a word.
No - know
Their - there
Its - It's
etc.
A spelling checker will not find these.

I agree! It's probably well over 75%, in my humble opinion.

I also can't stand the new-age internet slang. The shortened words such as "ur" for you're, "plz" instead of please, or "u" instead of you drive me absolutely crazy. Is it really so hard to type out an extra letter or two?

It makes me feel sad for our future.
