I have tried pepermint, mouse traps... I do not want to use the Decon incase the mouse dies downstairs and the neighbors dog eats it. The traps I have been buying are not doing the trick. Even if it is a brand you recommend, I am open to any thoughts. I cannot take the messes any more!

Don't use glue traps if you can help it. I use a Victor brand trap, it looks like a small rectangular box that sits on a pivot. There's a door on it that is open, but when a mouse enters, the weight shifts and closes the door behind it. Works every time for me; I just put a small piece of bread with some peanut butter on it in the back.

There is a type of trap that is sticky, that might help. You could flood the apartment with chlorine gas which is really easy to make, just clear the building of anything, or anybody that you don't want killed. You could get a dog, like a Fox Terrier, or a Dachshund, or a cat. One other point, keep your area clean, I mean down to the corners spotless. If there is nothing for them to eat, they will leave. If there is no place for them to nest, they will also leave. Talk to experts such as at a college or university to see if there is any kind of high frequency noise that would drive them away. A noise they can hear, but people can not.

I think you're talking about wood rats. I killed 13 of them in a 24 hr period with sticky paper and peanut butter. You can get the sticky paper from Kroger's and probably Walmart). Just place it in the area the rats enter usually near a dishwasher or washer dryer area. Put some peanut butter on it and wait. You will hear the rat trying to dislodge itself from the sticky paper and it takes 3-5 minutes before the rats tires out and dies. You can also use peanut butter ona rat trap. Make sure you buy RAT trap or sticky paper for LARGE mice/rats. Also, consider getting the owner of any vacant property near you to clean out the house or cut the grass, This cuts down on the rat infestation in the winter especially.

SIMPLE. Use REGULAR VICTOR mouse traps. Spread a rather THIN layer of peanut butter on the trigger plate. This way, the mouse will set it off every time. Make sure you also set the trigger plate well and close to spring point. Do this, and you'll have a dead mouse right quick. Glue traps are inhumane and don't work as well.

With winter upon us it's difficult to rid mice as they're looking for warmth. The best that I've found to be effective is a little peanut butter on the mouse trap! good luck

Well, a bad-*** cat would be good...I had a similar problem awhile back and finally called an exterminator. He utilized a poison bait trap that actually made the mice crazy thirsty and they would go outside to seek water and die. I was very pleased that it drove them outside as I didnt want them dying in the walls and within 1 week there were no mice in the house at all.

While it may be too late for this season [be tough finding 'em as they drop in autumn], one of the best repellents around are what are known as Hedge Apples [also called Horse Apples]. They are a chartreuse/lime green, look like hard, knobby grapefruits, grow on hardwood trees and many/most people don't know they are a great natural repellent [mice/insects/roaches/spiders, etc]. Might see if native to your area. They're all over midwest/southwest US.

Each autumn [Sept/Oct] they can be found along right-of-ways to pick up, especially in rural areas. Meaning, they could be cost-free just for the taking. They seem to still be effective even when dried so mine stay put until a next season [used some 2 yrs].

To use, put them on a flat surface [lid off a can, a yogurt cup, a square of cardboard, square of carpet] where air circulates freely all around [they mold if air doesn't circulate]. They'll turn golden brown to darker brown as they dehydrate [will dry up/harden]. In an 8x10 room one might be sufficient. In a 10x12 room, use one in opposite corners of the floor. In large rooms use one in each corner, on the floor. You won't notice they're there. [Critters will.]

Neighbors here have problems with mice - there've been none in this space since Hedge Apples were put in all rooms [3+ years]. Was so impressed with results that 3 boxes of 'em were shipped USPS for other areas - one at 9,000ft altitude and two in subzero locales. Recipients reported they'd worked well in their areas, too.

An online search for Hedge Apples might give helpful information about the tree [scientific name] and where they'd likely grow best. Conservation office [or County Extension Agent] in your area might have information, as well. Good luck in this!

use non violent mouse traps, not poison or those snapping things and then just drop the little guys off in some field. As for rats, use walnuts as bait but before you put it on the trap, a larage VICTOR rat trap, nail that trap into the floor so it doesn't move. Then bait it. the rat will have it's neck broken and will die instantly. but USE WALNUTS!!! not cheese, not meat, WALNUTS!!!

Did you know if your renting you can call the Housing Authority in your area or the Health Department and report your landlord for not having an EXTERMINATOR do this? So Just Do It. I feel bad for you.
