Sound quality is determined by the quality of the piano, whether it's a grand piano or a vertical piano. A good quality vertical will have better tone than a low quality grand. If the quality in a grand and vertical is the same, the grand will be more powerful and have a longer sustain.

A grand piano gives better projection of sound, expecially if the lid is open. Grands are louder than uprights. The quality of the sound will depend on the make of piano and where it is positioned (ie - a large room with a wooden floor will promote a good sound)

A grand is alot better for sound quality, but an upright can easily fit into alot more places than a grand. As long as you have the room for a grand, go for it!

Grand, definitely. We compromised on a baby grand. It still takes up half the room though.

The grand piano is best for many reasons. And worst!
I hate to sound, revolutionary, but have you considered digital?
