First she needs to get those "kids" out of there and on their own --completely on their own including car payments. If they are not willing to help constructively, then they are getting in the way. They're young and probably have no concept that their parent who has cared for them all their lives suddenly is in a compromising situation and can no longer spoil them rotten. They are are acting like weaning babies from what it sounds like. There may also be enabling issues that they're around all the time so she has had no time to herself to work on grieving which includes coming to grips with the reality of her loss. With her kids at her side all the time looking for the free handouts she cannot do that and nor can they. In contrast, though, I do not mean to coldly throw them out on their ears. Use some of the money to put a first month rent and damage deposit on an apartment and tell them they are on their own now, mommy can't take care of them anymore. If they come back, charge them rent and don't offer anything for free. They need to understand they are adults now and the only free stuff is junk others don't want, contest prizes, advice, and air. At the very least no more free room and board or car. They need to practice reciprocity.

Put both kids in Job Corps. It's an excellent program. They can even live there. ALL expenses are paid.

Call 411 information, and ask for the Job Corps in your area.

get her to a mental health professional and somehow get her some backbone to put some discipline into her offspring so they get jobs and help out. I know an employer who could offer both those kids some excellent training and income... The US Army
