I have 30 gigabytes of free space and yet it takes me 15 minutes to turn my computer on. I have installed this AVG virus removal but it's still slow any ideas on what i should do? Any help would be useful.

I think there must have some regsitry errors in you PC to slow it down.Regsitry error is not a virus or spyware.
You need to try a registry cleaner to clean you PC.
Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer you create junk in the registry. You need to scan and clean your PC with registry cleaner. It is a powerful and useful tool to elinimate to the clutter and junk that builds up in your PC's registry from installing and removing programs, creating and deleting files and surfing online.Without regular system tune–ups, it's very likely your computer will slow, crash, full of error messages, leaving you with a costly computer–mechanic bill and lost data.
There are some comparison and review of registry cleaners

You can download and scan your PC for free.

Is that a question or what?
How could we tell if your computer is very slow? Hell I don't know, is it?

The fact that you have 30 GB left doesn't have anything to do with how fast or slow is your computer. - Well if AVG Antivirus makes your computer slower than it was before, then remove it!

Have you though the fact of having an antivirus makes your computer (or any computer) slower? The antivirus is there constantly in the background monitoring, so that takes memory resources, and CPU time, so what you expect the computer to be faster just because you installed an antivirus? Strange. :)

Do the opossite, remove the antivirus and see if it is faster?
Maybe you have a 286, or a 386, or a camel as a computer, or very little RAM memory, or a slow CPU, so that is why it's slow, nothing to do with your antivirus or the fact that you have 30 GB left.

Oh then because I have 500 GB left on my computer that should make my computer very fast, uh? NO!!!

Start worrying about what kind of CPU your computer has, how much RAM memory it has, which operating system it has, and when you think about all that....talk about your 30 GB left, or your AVG Antivirus, because they have nothing to do with the speed....the other factors I mentioned before, they do.

Have fun, I hope this helped.

Although the best option for you is to reinstall your OS, here are a few things you can do to continue working:

CAUSE

This issue occurs if one of the following conditions is true: • You have spyware or malware running on the computer.
• You have viruses that are running on the computer.
• You do not have sufficient free space on the hard disk.
• You do not have sufficient random access memory (RAM) installed on the computer.
• You have corrupted or outdated drivers.
• You have too many files in the Recycle Bin or temporary folders.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one or more of the following methods.

Run a current anti-spyware program on the computer
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/...
http://www.winpatrol.com/
http://www.lavasoft.de/ms/index.htm...
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index...
http://pestpatrol.com/

Run a current virus scanning program on the computer
Remove unused programs, increase the size of the hard disk, or remove programs from the hard disk so that you can install the programs on another hard disk
Upgrade the RAM

Examine Device Manager for old drivers and update them
Drivers can become outdated and possibly damaged to the point where they slow the system performance. To examine Device Manager for old drivers, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Run, type the sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK.
2. Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
3. Right-click the device, and then click Properties.
4. Click the Driver tab.
5. Compare the driver version on the Driver tab with the version information about the latest version of the driver that is released on the manufacturer's Web site.
To resolve the problems that are caused by corrupted or outdated drivers, install the latest drivers

Run the Disk Cleanup tool
To start the Disk Cleanup tool, click Start, click run, type cleanmgr.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.

YUP

Try this, start your computer and go to the run box and type MSCONFIG look on the far right at the tab that says startup.
When you click the startup box it will show you a list of ALL the programs that are starting when your system starts! If you have too many programs loading at startup it will drag your system down! Uncheck everything except your firewall and antivirus (if you have a firewall ) and restart and see if this improves your speed also use one of the spyware programs to run a check for adware! Please note that a restart is required and the config box will reappear just check the box and close it. See how she runs
" Good Luck" ps while it is important to know how much free space you have it doesn't sound like your free space is the issue!

30 gigs of free space is not gonna help you puter run faster. You mabe need to upgrade your ram, mabe need another anti-virus to double check, do you have spyware protection also? How about the start up programs? More start up programs, longer it is gonna take to boot up. Try going here, http://www.pcpitstop.com/, and run a full test. It will tell you all about your connection speed, your hardware, any problems with your configs, programs running while the test was in progress, and ideas on how to fix them. Good luck.

Download HijackThis.exe from www.merijn.org. Save it on your desktop and run it. Choose "Scan and Create Logfile" and wait for the logfile to appear. Then email it to me and I can tell you what's slowing things down. It sounds like you've got lots of stuff starting up when Windows starts, probably some of it malware, although it could be just particularly bloated but legitimate programs.

first off.... all those icons on the bottom right hand cornor... turn off the ones you dont need... change them so they dont auto-start when you turn on your computer.....

then get some more RAM.... cost abour 50-100 only.... you can installed it yourself and it takes a beginner to do it.. how do i know... i did it and i know nothing about computers.

i even bought the wrong one, then i went and exchanged it for the right one....

open up ur computer... and it should be the long sorta medium sized chip that is sticking out...

goodluck.

You need to reboot your machine and hold down the F8 key and then select come up in SAFE mode - then use the disk cleanup and the disk defragmenter to reorder your files so they are all contiguous. You need to do this at least once a month.
