I believe the only predestined aspect of our life is death. How and when we get there is determined by the choices we make.

The collective result of a long cycle, like the end of this universe is predestined, but how we get there can be free will. There are certain lessons we need to learn, but how & when i learn them is my choice. Don't think about the actions, think of the consequences. It is our growth as a spirit which matters, and not the physical world around us. The world is not an end, it is a means to learn what we have to. The human beings as a species are going to be extinct, now whether we are going to kill each other or we reach such a high level that we disappear into a shapeless form is a choice. It is predestined that we would be extinct, but the way to get there is a free will.

Both! There is enough predestined there that some of the most learned of the Creator's angels have job as Loo'is of attending to the breeding of humans over generations to get certain outstanding and needed individuals. Such a person is born to be and do and accomplish something. If you take up the study of astrology you will see that certain influences you were born with bring about matters in which you have no choice; predestined things. And that other matters leave you choice and decision making. Some people have no choice as to whom they will marry because they are part of the loo'is breeding program. George Washington was being fired at with bullets that would have killed him except that angels were catching those bullets in their hands because it was not his time to die and because he would be needed by this world.

I've debated this many times. People say that everything that happens is in accordance with God's plan. Thats the catch-all answer that theologians give when they cant explain why bad things happen in this world. But then, they contradict themselves by saying that the Bible says that we have been given free will by God himself. How can we have free will at the same time that the outcome of our lives is governed by God's plan? I say we have free will. I dont want to think that I am a puppet, acting out a choreographed life that was planned out ahead of time for me. I make my own decisions and therefore, my own destiny.

Presbyterians teach that some are predestined for salvation and some for damnation, but this is completely wrong, and a gross distortion of God's nature and His will for our lives.
This premise is based on a few Scriptures in Romans, and can only be believed if we totally disregard the totality of Scriptures that teach otherwise, and tell us exactly what Paul meant in those verses. Paul talked about the ultimate destiny of every believer - those who have freely chosen to follow Christ - that we will ultimately be conformed to His perfect image. The salvation referred to in those verses is the "salvation to be revealed in the last time", when Jesus returns and we see Him face to face. It is NOT referring to the new birth.
Now, as for God controlling all of our destinies in this world - let me ask you some questions:
If He gives us the freedom to choose hell over heaven, why would He predetermine every step we take in this world?
If He has complete control over everything, why does it say in Psalm 78 that the Israelites limited God working in their lives, or in Luke 5 that His power was present to heal the Pharisees and Sadduccees, but they rejected His will for their lives? Or why would the Scriptures say that God's will is for every man to be saved and come to the knowledge of Jesus Christ, yet we know multitudes reject Jesus daily and go to hell....completely outside the perfect loving will of God.....?????
Your CHOICES determine your destiny, but the life that is wholly submitted to God definitely has blessings and protection that the average worldly life does not.

Definitely free will. If our lives were already sorted out for us, then what would be the point of living it? But maybe, as a soul, you decide some guidelines that you want your life to have (what type of family you are born into, handicaps or disabilities, special talents) and then you make the best of it and deal with what comes.

i believe so. but then i also believe we can do something to reroute that channel towards smoother or more wavy waters. it depends on the situation. there are times when you're stuck with your circumstances and nothing you can do to make a change for the moment. but it doesn't mean to say that you'll remain that way, in that kind of situation. only when everything is looking right for you to do that move. it's funny how old flames meet again, have all the chances to rekindle their love or start life anew, but their free will decide not to go that way.

Your free will determines your destiny. Each choice has a different outcome, each outcome leads to another choice.

fate and freewill our interchangeable. Imagine that fate is your body, and freewill your decisions. You can decide and act upon any decision, so jump up and down, tumble, flop around, etc, but your body limits what you are capable of doing. So the body is "fate" because there are certain limitations, but your decisions and especially your wishes are your freewill.
The only problem is getting your body to act exactly according to your wishes. You know, like fly and stuff. But that's a hard fate to get over.
