buying a new desktop soon. receiving mix opinions. some people suggest me dual core 2.8, some say core 2 duo is far better then dual core, few says there are no major difference between dual core and core 2 duo.
i know one major difference is their FSB. my question is which one is really better for multitasking work, how important FSB is ?
finally is is there major difference between 2.8 dual core and 3.0 dual core ?

FSB is short for Front Side Bus, basically how high this number is dictates how fast the cpu can interface with the RAM. Obviously the Bigger the FSB the faster a CPU can communicate with the system RAM, so the faster your computer runs. The 2.8 and 3.0 numbers u asked about reffer to the speed in Ghz the chip runs at, so the 3.0 is a faster interface than the 2.8.
all Duel core means is that instead of having one logic processing unit you processor will have 2 allowing 2 bits of data to be processed at any one time (into the millionths of a second) giving anything from a small boost to your performance to, with a program coded specifically to be processed in a duel core chip, 3/4 or more performance boost over a single core.

Core 2 Duo is far superior to the Pentium D (I assume that is what you are referring to, dual core is actually just a generic name for any processor with two cores). The FSB is one of its advantages, and yes the FSB is important, but it has other advantages as well. It has more cache, it runs cooler, it uses less power, it sends more data each clock cycle, etc. Core 2 Duo is better for anything, since it is simply faster in all respects.

well im not much of a hardware fanatic more programming sided, but the FSB is apart of your overclocking capabilities also a higher FSB means higher cpu performance.
