somewhere between 6 months and a year. And it does not do you harm to take it after the exp date. It may not be as effective though.

I'm assuming this is a suspension (liquid), since I don't believe that's available in pill form. Expiration dates on medications are really just guidelines. They're usually about 1-2 years from production, and represent the date that the manufacturer "guarantees" effectiveness. Some meds, (not all) start losing effectiveness over time, anywhere from 5-50%. Since it's a liquid, I think it's more prone to chemical changes than a pill would be. It won't hurt you... but it may not be as effective as it would have been when fresh.
Double check with your pharmacist, but I've used cough syrup with codeine over 2 years past the expiration date with no problem and gotten the full effect.

They say don't take med's that are over 6 months to a year old; I have taken them and they still worked for up to 2 years. The reason they give you expiration dates are that some medication breaks down when in storage they can be stronger or weaker depending on what it is. Then again ask yourself how long do think the pharmacy had it on there shelves; you know they aren't going to throw them away they would lose to much money.

If you can't find an expiration date on it, it is already too old.usually it is 6 months.

You need to look at the expiration date on the bottle of pills.

NO. The chemicals change over time and can become a completely different compound, and can definitely harm you. THROW IT OUT.
