No, I don't see this happening.

While Helton's power stats have regressed the last few years, he has quietly battled some serious health issues. First was a back problem that couldn't be addressed by surgery (it was in a difficult place to get to and they would have had to go through the rib cage - Helton was very hestitant to do this because of inherent risks). Last year, he battled an intestinal infection.

I expect a rebound in power number this year if he's full healthy, but probably not to the extent of his early numbers. He is older, and the humidor would affect his home numbers.

While Holliday and Atkins are both very good players, Helton is still the face of the franchise. It's difficult to determine the economic impact of trading him (lost ticket revenue, merchandising, etc).

With the trades (Hirsh, Buchholz) and free agent acquistions (Lawrence, Lopez) and young guys on the horizon (Jimenez, Morillo) I think the rotation will be solid over the next few years.

Go Rocks!

The Rockies almost have to trade Helton. He has greatly regressed as a hitter, and on top of that, he has an albatross of a contract. Besides, the Rox will be fine in the hitting department. They still have Matt Holliday, who continues to improve as an all-around player. Brad Hawpe, too. The Rockies are in dire need of pitching and defense. Helton is their best bargaining chip.

Unless the Rockies make a blockbuster deal and bring in some star power, they won't trade Helton.

He's without a doubt the most popular Rocky since the team came into the league.

The talk is that Boston is going to make a play for Helton. He's to be paid some 16.5 million dollars. He'll fit right in with the other new millionaires.
