Your question could be interpreted at least two ways that I can think of right off. Bittsen answered one way. So I'll answer the other.
I take your question to ask what will become of traditional astrophotography, the skill and art of using film long exposures to capture an image in a telescop or star trails or just the night sky.

I fear that it is becoming just that, a for of art. Digital photography is more than capable of doing everything traditional photography can do , more, better and in the long run less costly. Still, there is a certian thrill that comes with shooting star trails or capturing a meteor on film.
I doubt Astrophotography will truely be completely gone, but its hey-day has passed.
