I just wanted to jump i here and say I've been reading on this board this morning and it is dangerous. By the spelling and grammer I figure the average age in here is 12-13 and the misinformation being handed out is potentially dangerous. If you people are really seeking answers try a reputable source.

I don't know the age of the people who answer here, but for reliable information you should always seek out a second source . I think some people here are really trying to help others. Many are just bored and doing this for a lark.

Yes. it can be dangerous. I have seen young people ask questions on here and given answers like 'you have cancer'. How terrifying is that for a young person with a problem to read.

I think it is generally quite easy to judge the age of a person or if the person has a genuine problem. If I feel the questioner is genuine, I always try to give sensible and helpful answers. If I feel they are not, I respond accordingly.

Being an older (and hopefully wiser) person, I feel I can give help and advice to younger people but I only say what I am 100% certain of. I don't guess at things which a lot of people do. That can frighten people to death.

Scary, isn't it? I generally ignore the immature questions, or ones where people seem to think they're being incredibly witty or cute (they're the only ones who think so). I answer only the seemingly serious ones, and only the ones where I feel I can genuinely help someone or ones I feel qualified to deal with. If I can help one person, in any way, no matter how small, I feel I have done something good. At least, I hope I have helped someone. I also answer some of the interesting ones, like the one where someone asked who everyone thought was the greatest guitarist. Pick and choose your questions; I respond to a very miniscule amount compared to what's posted.

yes it can be, depending on the person. i all ways answer questions on mental health issues, because that was my profession and i enjoy helping people. i have seen many good answers to mental health issues, and some poor and inappropriate answers. usually i find most people give correct responses, i have seen questions were 8 people with give the same answer, and one person, will give opposite answer, but the asker will choose the one answer as best answer. it is almost as ifthey are waiting, for what they think is the answer they want to hear. i agree, going to a reputable source, is a good idea, but a lot of people cannot identify their problems, or figure out what is wrong with them, and this board is a good starting place. you also have to be care full when research were they want to sell you something. their are lots of sites out their that are free, and sometimes run by people with problems themselves, that do good work

I agree that it can be dangerous if people don't seek medical advice from a professional and rely only on information here.

If you really want to help them, you might give them a link to a 'reputable site'.

Yep, probably. Shouldn't take any reliable info from a website anyway...
