We don't have to feel anything when watching fiction on T.V. During the news, many emotions can come up: sadness, rage, guilt, to name a few.
All we have to do when watching fiction on T.V. is watch and not get involved.
Taking responsibility in our everyday lived is not popular these days. Therefore, taking responsibility for things we see on the news that we might be able to do something about might make us feel guilty for not doing more.
Fiction gives us the chance to see other peoples lives without involvement. Make judgments without backlash. Be prejudiced without someone telling us we are wrong. Rejoice without actually having an on-going relationship with any real person.

Real life is messy; news is messy; fiction is neat, over in half an hour or hour and doesn't require our participation or advice. Most people are too involved in their own personal petty problems to truly look around and see how they can improve the "real" world they see on the news.

News programs have become infotainment. Even in my youth I couldn't stand the "analysis" of people like Walter Cronkite, and there's been nothing like Huntley & Brinkley in a long time. There's more truth in fiction shows than in the news on TV, so I get my news from reading it.

Because most people want their realities to be full of butterflies and jelly beans. Heaven forbid that people turn on CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC and get a dose of reality. They figure that if you don't see it happening in TV, then it isn't happening at all. And that is a damn shame. I would be willing to bet that most young people my age wouldn't be able to tell you who Lou Dobbs, Bill O'Reilly, Joe Scarbourough, or Jim Lehrer is.

The "news" IS fiction. The sooner you realize that, the less easily you'll be fooled by the "establishment".

The news will always have at least 2,000 people killed across the globe, kidnapping, rape, war, genocide, Democrats, etc....

However, Seinfeld is just funny. What better escape could there be?

IT'S SO OBVIOUS
THE NEWS IS DEPRESSING
AND WE KNOW IT'S REAL
WHO WANTS TO BE
DEPRESSED
TELEVISION IS THE
THING I USE TO BE
ENTERTAINED.
